Host SelectionEarly World Cups were given to Countries at meetings of FIFA's congress. Today teams bid to host the World Cup and and are chosen in vote by FIFA's Executive Committee. The 2002 World Cup hosted by Japan and South Korea was the first to be hosted by two countries. South Africa became the first african country to host the World Cup in 2010. Six of the eight champions have won their titles on home soil.
